The Adult Learning Center is funded by the Massachusetts Department of Education - Adult and Community Learning Services Division, and by the Worcester Public Schools.
Mission Statement
To provide each and every adult with opportunities to develop literacy skills needed to qualify for further education, job training, and better employment, and to reach his/her full potential as a family member, productive worker, and citizen.
What Is "ABE"?
ABE stands for Adult Basic Education. ABE is an umbrella term used to describe a range of educational services for adults from basic literacy (including English for non-native speakers of English), numeracy, and high school equivalency (GED)/ adult diploma programs (ADP).
ABE programs also:
  • Assist adult learners with finding supportive services such as transportation and child care resources
  • Provide many types of Life Skills workshops which include such topics as resume writing and budgeting
  • Assist adult learners in transitioning from adult basic education into jobs, higher education, or vocational training
